Celsiana

 ARS Rating:  8.8

 Class:   Damask

Date:  Pre-1750 per Graham Stuart Thomas (ARS – pre-1867)

Blooms:  Semi-double borne in nodding clusters.  Displays yellow anthers.  Petals have a silky, translucent quality.

Bloom Frequency:  Once blooming in spring.

Color:  Clear pink fading to pinkish-white in the sun.

Fragrance:  Very fragrant

Thorns:  A few but not so many as to make it difficult to work with the rose.

Approximate Height:  5’ by 4’

Description and Care:  Downy, light grey-green foliage.  Forms a graceful shrub.  Flexible canes, very well suited to pegging or growing on a pillar.  If you peg it and the branches touch the ground, it is disposed towards rooting where it has good contact with the soil.  Flower stalks are somewhat weak.

I have never sprayed this rose and it never has any disease problems.  It does not require pruning unless you need to do so to keep it within bounds.  If you must prune it, do so right after flowering.

Comments:  This is an extremely easy rose to grow and well suited to organic gardening methods.
